What is the secret behind such a rapid rise in the world rankings? According to Gentzsch, it's all about commitment and mentality: "I try to give 110% every day and focus completely on the things that are in my own hands. Not complaining about what I can't control. At some point I got into a rhythm and just kept going."

Fifteen wins in a row and a boost in confidence

With titles at both an M15 and M25 tournament and an impressive run of 15 consecutive wins, not only did his ranking grow, but so did his confidence. Still, Gentzsch remains down-to-earth: "Honestly, my mindset is not very different. It felt more like a reward for all the hard work of the past few months. Above all, it showed me that anything is possible. Last week in Genoa I was even on the verge of beating a player from the top 30."

Learning from the world's best

During a Challenger tournament in Genoa, Gentzsch played an exciting match against Luciano Darderi, the world number 30. Although he lost narrowly, he looks back positively: "It was a great challenge to see what the absolute top does and what I can still improve. After the match, I discussed with my coaches what I need to work on to reach that level as well. I now have concrete things to tackle and that motivates me tremendously."

The balance between training and tournaments

Success comes not only from playing matches, but also from finding the right balance. Gentzsch explains how he approaches that: "Usually I play a two- to three-week period of tournaments, followed by a week of training. Sometimes I then take a few days of rest. This schedule has worked well for me for a couple of years and I'm going to stick with it for now."

Looking ahead: goals and development

With a current spot around 265th in the world rankings, Gentzsch's main goal in the coming months is to maintain his level. "I will lose some points soon, so my goal is to regain them and stay around spot 270. In terms of play, I mainly want to become more consistent in my strokes and keep working with a specific plan."
